Junior Golf Association of Broward County
Spectator Rules
Revised March 2023
Stay Behind the Ropes!
Junior Golf Association of Broward County events are played under USGA Rules of Golf. If local rules are applied, they will be communicated to the players at the first tee.
Spectators
- Must remain 30 yards distance from all players, once play has begun.
- Must remain on cart paths or in the rough, not in the fairways or on the greens.
- Must not interfere with JGA Officials when performing their duties.
- Are strictly prohibited from smoking and using electronic cigarettes of any kind.
Violations
Spectators that violate any JGA Rules above will receive a warning for the first violation. Subsequent violations will result in the spectator being asked to leave the course.
- Communication is limited to encouragement/support and providing emergency food/water only if necessary. No coaching or advise is allowed.
Violations
Players who receive advice from a spectator will receive a warning for the first violation. Subsequent violation will result in the player receiving a two (2) stroke penalty added to the score of the hole where the violation occurred [USGA Rule 10.2]. A third violation of this rule will result in the player receiving an additional two (2) stroke penalty and the spectator being asked to leave the course (as noted above).
- May assist in the search for a player’s ball in order to help speed play, however:
- Golf carts must remain on the cart paths while the search is conducted on foot.
- Once the ball is found, spectators must leave the area immediately.
Spectators Golf Carts
The following rules govern the use of golf carts and are in addition to those of the host facility:
- The option to offer spectator carts and the cart fees are at the discretion of the host facility.
- Carts must be operated in a safe manner at all times and remain on the cart paths and/or rough, never in the fairway or around the green.
- Carts must remain stationary while competitors are playing a stroke. If a golf cart is placed in reverse, it will make a very loud, continuous warning alarm sound that is very distracting to the players.
- Only two (2) people are allowed to ride in a cart except during a course evacuation. For safety reasons, under no circumstance is ANYONE to stand or ride on the back or the side of a golf cart.
Violations
Spectators that violate any of the rules above will receive a warning for the first violation. Subsequent violations will result in the spectator being asked to leave the course immediately and they may not be allowed to rent carts at future events. Violators will not receive any form of refund or credit for the cart rental.
- Spectators may transport a player to their first tee and to the scoring table after their last hole is completed.
- Once a tournament has begun, players are not permitted to sit or ride in a golf cart unless authorized to do so by a JGA Official, except during a course evacuation.
Violations
Players that violate this rule will receive a warning for the first violation. Subsequent violations will result in the player receiving a two (2) stroke penalty added to the score of the hole where the violation occurred.
- Spectator carts will be used to assist with a course evacuation of all players and spectators. If necessary, carts may leave the cart paths during a course evacuation.
- Carts must be returned to the cart area immediately upon returning to the clubhouse. Carts are not to be parked around the scoring area or left at the scoring area. Spectators who leave their cart outside of the cart return area will not be permitted to rent carts at future events.
It will be at the discretion of the JGA Board to determine if a spectator that is asked to leave the course for any reason will be eligible to attend future tournaments.
