Rules for Advancement

(April 2026)

Division Placement:

RETURNING PLAYERS: Players returning for the upcoming season will begin play in the same division in which they finished playing in the previous season, except for players who earned their way up in division based on their finish in the JGA Championship at the end of the previous season.

Any player eligible to move up after the last regular season tournament prior to the JGA Championship will have the option of remaining in their current division or moving up to the next division for the JGA Championship. If the player opts to stay in their current division for the JGA Championship, they will automatically move up to the next division at the beginning of the following season, regardless of their finish in the JGA Championship.

NEW PLAYERS: The Board of Directors will evaluate new members applications and assign new members to a division. The highest division to which a new member will be assigned is the (Boys/Girls) 9-hole division. Advancement to (Boys/Girls) Championship will be based on meeting the (Boys/Girls) eligibility requirements for advancement.  New members’ play will be monitored and any decision to adjust a player’s division will be at the discretion of the Executive Director.

DECIDING A TIE: A playoff between players tied for 1st place will be conducted to determine the 1st place winner. Ties for the 2nd or 3rd place trophy will be decided by a match of cards beginning with the last hole the division played, going back until a winner is determined.

Rules For Advancement:

Players may advance to the next division once they meet the established performance criteria for their current division. These guidelines are designed to ensure that players progress as their skills develop and continue to be appropriately challenged in tournament play.

Because it is important that all players remain competitive within their division, the Board of Directors reserves the right to reassign players to a division where their skill level is the best fit. Our goal is to support fair competition, player development, and an enjoyable tournament environment for all junior golfers.

Boys 3 Hole Division: Eligible players include all new players to the JGA.

Boys 5 Hole Division: Eligible players include those who finish first or second in the 3-Hole Division and advance with a qualifying score.

Boys 9 Hole Red Division: Eligible players include those who finish first or second in the 5-Hole Division and advance with a qualifying score, or players new to JGA who compete on a high school golf team.

Boys 9 Hole White Division: Eligible players include those who finish first or second in the Red Division and advance with a qualifying score, or players new to JGA with prior tournament experience who compete on a high school golf team.

Boys Championship Division: Eligible players include those who have graduated from the Players League, or players new to JGA with exceptional tournament experience (regularly shooting rounds under 80) and a comprehensive understanding of the Rules of Golf.

Girls 3 Hole Division: Eligible players include all new players to the JGA.

Girls 5 Hole Division: Eligible players include those who finish first or second in the 3-Hole Division and advance with a qualifying score.

Girls 9 Hole Division: Eligible players include those who finish first or second in the 5-Hole Division and advance with a qualifying score, or players new to JGA with prior tournament experience who compete on a high school golf team.

Girls Championship Division: Eligible players include those who have graduated from the Players League, or players new to JGA with exceptional tournament experience (regularly shooting rounds under 85) and a comprehensive understanding of the Rules of Golf.

Alumni 18-hole Division:
