About JGA

Our Beginnings and Our Mission

The Junior Golf Association of Broward County, Inc. (JGA) is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Florida. The organization was founded in 1968 by junior golf parents Steve and Olga Purdo, who wanted to provide their children with a positive and fun activity during the summer months.

More than 60 years later, that mission continues thanks to the dedication of many volunteers, parents, and junior golfers who have helped grow the program. The JGA remains committed to creating a positive, welcoming, and fun golf environment during the summer where all kids can develop a love for the game—regardless of their skill level.

Each summer, JGA hosts tournaments during June, July, and August, welcoming up to 400 boys and girls ages 6–18. With the support of golf course owners, members, and golf professionals, tournaments are held on a variety of public and private courses throughout Broward, Dade and Palm Beach Counties.

Our Objectives

  • To provide a positive environment for children to learn the game of golf.
  • To instill values of honesty, integrity, teamwork and friendship amongst players.
  • To build a JGA community with the valuable support of our parents and junior volunteers.
  • To create a performance-based competition that allows every golfer to play within their means and advance through the competitive divisions based on their skill level.
  • To recognize academic and community accomplishments of our junior golfers by providing awards and scholarships for those who qualify.
  • To give back to our community by supporting charities that help our local community grow and help those in need.
  • To make tournament golf accessible to any child interested in playing.

New Golfers

The JGA is a great place for young players who are new to the game of golf. Our Players League provides a friendly and encouraging tournament environment where kids can learn the fundamentals, gain on-course experience, and begin developing their passion for the sport.

Players also have the opportunity to meet new friends who share an interest in golf while enjoying a structured and supportive introduction to tournament play.

Developing Golfers

Many JGA participants are golfers who are continuing to develop their skills or athletes who are moving to golf from another sport. JGA offers an affordable and organized way for young players to build their game while learning important values such as sportsmanship, patience, and confidence.

With a variety of divisions designed to match players by skill level rather than just age, JGA provides a fun, challenging, and rewarding experience for boys and girls as they improve and progress in the sport.

Experienced and Advanced Players

The JGA also attracts experienced and advanced junior golfers who are looking for strong competition during the summer months.

Our Champions League includes players who compete for their middle school or high school golf teams, as well as accomplished players who want to sharpen their skills and prepare for the upcoming school season. The Champions League would give golfers the opportunity to test their abilities against some of the best junior players in Broward and Palm Beach Counties while playing on many of the region’s finest courses.

Whether a player has progressed through the JGA divisions, recently moved to the area, or is already competing at a high level, the JGA provides a competitive and rewarding tournament experience.
